If you want to go on the pH Miracle diet, there are a few things that you have to do. Go through the list of acid foods and clear out your cupboards and refrigerator of all the acid foods. If your family members don’t want to join you on the pH Miracle diet, you can remove the acid foods that you normally eat. After you have got rid of all the “temptations”, the next thing you have to do is to go shopping.
This can be done at nearly any grocery store. Some people prefer to shop at health food or natural food shops like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. You may not live near one of these types of stores but you can still find many of the specialty items at a normal grocery store.
It is a good practice to always make a list before you go shopping. In that way you will know exactly what you have to buy, not only will it save an extra trip to the shops, it will also save time and money. If you can afford it, you can buy many of the foods on the alkaline food list. On the other hand, the alkaline food list contains a lot of fresh vegetables. If you buy more than you can use, you will waste money and food. It is a much better idea to plan a week’s menus in advance, write down all the ingredients you will need for the recipes and then go to the shops. In this way you will only buy what you need and nothing will be wasted.
Another thing to keep in mind when starting out with the pH miracle diet is that it does not have to be 100% alkaline. You should always strive to maintain a balance between the alkaline and acid foods. Keep this in mind when you plan your menus and the accompanying grocery lists. Although you can include slightly acidic foods like wheat bread, whole grain pasta, eggs, milk, dried beans and nuts as well as bananas in your weekly menu you will find many resources that will give you an idea about the acid levels of other foods. The important thing is to maintain a balance of 70% alkaline to 30% acid in the diet.
There is something that you may not realize on your first shopping trip but you are sure to notice it the second or third time. All the products you have to buy are displayed along the walls of the store. Almost all the foods along the walls are fresh and natural whilst the foods in the aisles and center of the store are either packaged or processed foods. The outer edges of the store normally consist of the deli/meat counter, the dairy and fresh produce sections.
On the pH miracle diet you will focus on buying fresh produce, especially vegetables and if you can afford to buy organic vegetables, you should do it. Often times you will not be able to find fresh organic produce but you can also use the frozen ones. A lot of grocery stores may not have fresh organic produce but they normally have organic frozen products in stock. Stay away from canned vegetables and fruit. They contain a lot of sodium that is used for preservation. The canning process also negatively affects the alkaline levels of the food. Think fresh!
You should strive to balance the alkaline and acid food purchases when you go shopping. If you cut out all your favourite foods and try to be too strict on yourself, you will get discouraged and soon be back to your old eating habits. Include more alkaline foods in the beginning and as you move further into the pH miracle diet, you can start to cut out more of the acid foods.
