Before I started the Alkaline Diet I used to be tired all day. No matter what energy boosters  I took I used to get up tired and go to bed tired. Since I started the Alkaline Diet that is a thing of the past. I also learnt why I used to be so tired, something which I am going to share here with you.

It all starts with two very important mineral supplements  your body needs to function properly: Calcium and Magnesium.

Calcium

Calcium is important to your body in that it aids with the proper functioning of your heart. The action of your heart is to beat, which means it opens and closes or put another way, it relaxes and contracts. When it contracts, it pumps blood out of the heart into the arteries and through the body. When it relaxes on the other hand, it opens up to let new blood from the lungs enter it, filling it again so it can be pumped out to carry oxygen rich blood to the various cells in the body. So the heart is constantly tightening and relaxing.

Calcium plays a very important role in the tightening of the heart as the contraction cycle needs calcium to contract and if there is not enough calcium availalable it will result in a weak heartbeat. Calcium is so important to the body that it will steal calcium from the bones in order to supply enough calcium for its functions, and in doing so weakening the bones.

Magnesium

Magnesium is used by the heart in the relaxing or opening cycle. Magnesium is the mineral the allows muscles to relax after tightening up – the tightening up being the job of the calcium in the same area.

So calcium allows the heart muscles, as well as other muscles in the body, to contract and tighten, and the magnesium allows it to relax or lengthen.

What I have learnt

What I have learnt from this is that before I started eathing a healthy diet like the Alkaline Diet, that my body was  very deficient in calcium and magnesium, resulting in tired muscles and a very lethargic body in general.

More importantly, I have learnt that eating the wrong food was making the calcium defiency even worse in that; when eating too many foods that leave an acidic ash in the body, it results in the body needing to use even more calcium to fight the acidity. So it is a vicious circle.

Now that I am following a healthy diet, shortness of breath, tired muscles and lethargy is a thing of the past. I get up in the morning eager to start the day, and I also sleep a lot better at night because my body does not have to spend so much time and resources on keeping me healthy.

I have cut out most acidic forming foods out of my diet, have increased the amount of vegetables I eat, and I have an alkaline drink consisting of bicarb, lemon juice and fresh water at least twice daily.

I am a completely revived person health wise since I started following the Alkaline Diet. I am positive that it can do the same for you. To get the recipe for my alkalizing lemon & bicarb drink, click here: How To Make Alkaline Water
